We can cook! - LATER ELEMENTARY STUDENTS
Our later elementary (3rd-6th grade) course targets social skills while exploring and expanding participants’ nutritious cooking skill set. Using a Social Thinking™ approach, participants are introduced to later-developing social skills (e.g., topic maintenance, identifying social cues, social problem solving, etc.).
This five week class is designed as a beginner-intermediate course for teaching social and cooking skills as well as food safety. Each 60 minute class will consist of:
- Social Skills Lesson – targeting developmental social skills (e.g., topic maintenance, social cues, problem solving, etc.).
- Cooking Class – participants work together to prepare a healthy meal while integrating targeted social skills.
- Meal Time & Reflection – participants enjoy the meal together, while actively practicing the targeted social skill. At the end of each class, participants reflect on which strategies work well and which strategies are more challenging.
